Scrub-A-Dub-Dub, Lots of Crocs in the Tub

We interrupt the regularly scheduled series (Looking Back/Looking Forward) to share the following......

As we prepare to go to Ethiopia, one of the items that I am collecting in order to take over to donate to the people there are shoes; specifically Crocs or Croc-type shoes.

Why Crocs, you ask?

Well, personally, I have chosen to place much of my collection concentration on these shoes because they are so lightweight. Remember, whatever I take over has to fit into two pieces of luggage (50 pounds each) to be checked at the airport. Crocs, as you know are extremely lightweight and I just feel that I can carry over so many more pair.

So, with this in mind, I have been turned onto something new and different (for me). I've often heard a couple of my girlfriends talk about shopping at the Goodwill "Dig" Store. My friend, Gina, is the best thrifter ever and, one day last week, we headed out for my first digging experience. This Goodwill Store is not your average Goodwill Store (I've shopped at lots of those lots of time). This is the end-of-the-road for items that haven't sold at typical stores and it is all "displayed" on large rolling tables. You must literally "dig" to find your sold-by-the-pound bargains. (Word to the wise....don't forget your gloves and some hand sanitizer).

My sister, Ashley, and I went again today. In the last two weeks, I have purchased 51 pair of Crocs. (I have also purchased some rainboots, other shoes, toys/dolls, jackets, etc.). The Crocs wind up being about $1.50 per pair.

Now....when you buy used shoes at the Goodwill "dig", they need to be cleaned up and the best way I could decide to accomplish this was to dump them all in a hot, soapy tub. They've all been Pine-Sol'ed, soaped up, scrubbed, rinsed and are currently drying. Soon, I will pack them up and add others along the way.

Could you pray with me for the little (and big) feet that will someday wear all of these?

I love these pics. Such bright and beautiful shoes for bright and beautiful children. How sad that so many of us have a closet full of shoes and many of these kiddos have none to protect thier feet. I'm so glad you found so many wonderful pairs at your dig! I'm definitely praying for all those little feet that will fill them.

How AWESOME!!

I have an idea, have you thought about posting on your look Freecycle about WHY you are collecting crocs? I am SURE some people would be happy to give their outgrown ones!
