The Dining Room

I mainly follow decorating blogs. I love them and have gotten some great ideas. Actually, I started out thinking that this blog would be one where I would mainly share decorating ideas, etc. but, as it turns out, I haven't done as much of that as I thought I would. That has partly to do with the fact that nothing in my home is really "done" and I don't want to show pictures of half-finished rooms.

However, I do have one room (my Dining Room) that is finished and I am trying it out on Rate My Space so I thought I'd share it here as well.

Consider this fair warning...if you came here for something deep and spiritual or if you came here to see or read something about my kids, my husband or my sweet dog, this is not it.


My table, ladderback chairs and the buffet are all pieces that formerly belonged to my NaNa. When she downsized several years ago, she gave it to me. In all honesty, I've often thought that it wasn't exactly what I would have chosen for myself but, now that she's gone, I cherish it and am so thankful to have it. The "buffet" was actually a china cabinet but, when we moved this last time, I decided to take the hutch top off to update it a little. I added the massive rattan-type chairs to the head(s) of the table a couple of years ago and I love them. They are from ZGallerie. Now that I've said the room is finished, I guess it's not, because I plan to cover these cushions and pillows.

As you can see, the table is decked out for Fall. Once Halloween is past, I will add a couple of cool pilgrims and a "Give Thanks" plaque on an easel.

When we bought this house, I loved the lines of the light fixture in this Dining Room (and a coordinating one in the foyer). I knew that I wanted to have something done on the ceiling so when I met with the painter, I told her only two things...."I love the curves of this fixture and I like the fleur de lis". She took that.....

...and did THIS....

I still can't believe it. I love it. She stood on a ladder in my Dining Room for 8 hours one day painting this by hand. She had sketched it onto a piece of paper, scanned and emailed it to me for my approval then came in and began, with a pencil, to place it onto the ceiling. My original plan was to put a brown glaze over the entire ceiling (including the medallion) but, once she finished, I loved it so much, I was afraid to take the next step for fear that I would do anything to interfere with this work.
