Say What?

One of my favorite bloggers, The Nester, is hosting one big P.O.O.P.I.E (People Opposing Objectionable Pretend Plants In the Environment) Party.

Why, you ask? Well, some (or most) real "designers" are of the opinion that it is completely UNcool to use fake plants in your home. And, frankly, I'm not sure if I agree or not. In a dream world, maybe I wouldn't be a total black thumb and be able to keep real stuff alive and, more than that, be able to afford to refresh the new cut flowers weekly. But, in my real world, I'm not and I can't.

So...I grabbed my camera and took out through my house to see just how offensive I was. This is what I found:

I begin my first offense right from the start, at the front door. The ivy in the hanging planter is real. The Impatiens in said container are also real. Real and dead. (Note to self...pull up all of the leftover annuals) The evergreens in the urns on either side of the door...they're real. The wreaths...FAKE.

Come on in to the foyer, where you'll find my next example of fakin' it. High atop an antique cabinet.

Moving right along. In the Great Room, I am a habitual faker. First, we have the faker than fake asparagus fern which is SUPPOSED to be hiding some cords. (Note to self...that's not working) Next up are the arrangements on my mantel. I love these and, I don't care what you say, they're GOOD fakes. Is that an oxymoron? Now, about these arrangements...see the close-up of the pheasant? THAT, my friends, is NOT fake. It is actually a real pheasant pelt (doesn't that sound better than carcus?). Does that creep you out? If not, maybe this will...I bought a whole "lot" of them on Ebay several years ago. I can't tell you the amount of grief I've gotten over this.

Next, we have the Breakfast Nook. I have managed to offend more than once on one little black tray. Here we not only have a fake arrangement but I've tossed in some fake artichokes as well. So sorry.

In the hallway, I have this little niche. And there I have displayed this:

Last but not least, we have this orchid which resides in my Master Bathroom. Don't zoom in on it. The dust...oh my! The orchid was actually an after Christmas bargain at TarJay. Orchids aren't just for Christmas...are they?

In closing, I realize after looking at my own pictures that this post could also fall into another of Nester's mantra's...the "it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful" way of thinking. Boy...I need to clean house...it's kind of scary what the camera exposes.

Oh, and apparently I have a thing for feathers.

Oh how HAPPY I am to see someone ELSE have one of those FAKE aspargus ferns to hide cords...it isn't what I expected either! It looks like it needs watering, like mine does! I've actually tried watering it once, and caught myself JUST in TIME! It's gonna be one of the POOPIES I get rid of, unfortunately, cuz it is just NOT working for me, and Nester made me feel guilty, so I am currently trashing all my stuff and coming up with new plans to stay in the POOPIE Club!

Welcome!

Surely there's a difference between bad looking silk or plastic-y florals and your pheasants, feathers and artichokes. Although... I never knew about you buying the carcasses on eBay until I read the postings where you discuss it. That really grosses me out. :-) But... they DO look good.
