The Nester made me think

Here I go referring to "The Nester" again. I heart her.

Some time ago, she had a post that intriqued me. Well, actually, her posts ALWAYS intrique me but apparently this one came at a time when I didn't have the time (at that moment) to read it right away. Instead, I saved it in bloglines and, today, went back to it to read and ponder. And ponder I have.

The title of this post is "Perfect vs. Good" which actually falls right in line with a saying that I've heard my husband say more than once. And that is, "Do not let the perfect get in the way of the good." Funny, how when I've heard that statement in the past, I've always applied it to someone else. Love me anyway, people, I'm just being real.

So...today as I thought about this and applied it to ME....

Well, can I just say that if someone wrote a book about this, my picture should don the cover. Let's see....

  • How many years have I been needing/wanting/dying to lose weight and get in shape? 20? And what has kept me from doing it? (Besides laziness) I'll tell you what...the fact that I felt that I had to do it PERFECTLY and if I wasn't going to do it PERFECTLY then I'd just rather not do it at all.
  • And since I've begun exercising regularly, how many times do I think if I can't do it at that exact PERFECT time in the morning when I'm used to doing it then I just might as well not do it at all?
  • How many times am I totally overwhelmed at my house and all that needs to be done? Uh...daily probably. But contrast that with the number of days that I could be accomplishing something and don't because I want it all done, all at once, PERFECTLY and if I can't have that, then I just won't do it at all.
  • How often, as I'm planning for dinner do I want to make some extravagant dinner, something new and exciting but then I realize that my kids won't eat it so I just opt for some same old, same old. Okay...there's more than one issue here. First, apparently, my kids are entirely too picky and I should make them eat what goes on the table and, secondly, I'm immature and irrational because I decide if I can't do the PERFECT thing that I want to do then I will just settle for next to nothing.
  • And lastly, for the big "OUCH" of it all...how often do I think that if I can't have a certain PERFECT amount of time (that I've decided upon) to spend in the Word, then I'll just skip it altogether?

As I read what I've just typed, I realize how completely selfish and irrational all of this is. I have absolutely, positively let the PERFECT get in the way of the good. And I didn't even realize I was an "all or none kind of girl".

A Facebook Funny

Some months ago, I joined Facebook. I did it in order to prowl around and check it out while I decided whether or not I was okay with my then 14-year-old having his own Facebook account. Once I decided to allow him to do it, I was going to remove my account and let him sign up using my email address so that I would always get the email notifications and could keep an eye on what was going on on there. What can I say...I'm just nosy in his life like that. I am figuring it is payback for being a week overdue when he finally had to be taken by c-section. Anyway...with Facebook, once you've used an email address to establish an account, you can not reuse that same email address so when it got time to set up Jordan's account, my plan didn't work and we had to get him his own email address. Anyway, to make a long story not so long, I kept my Facebook page even though my original plan was only to test it out and then give it up. I had begun to get friend request's, etc. and just kind of went with it.

Fast forward to this week and now I have a confession to make. Apparently, I am NOT cool! I have a Facebook page but I know very little about how to use it or all of its capabilities.

Earlier this week I got a notification on my email that said something like this, "Your Friend (name withheld because of the millions of people who read this blog) has sent you 'Pieces of Flair'". I clicked on the link to "Pieces of Flair" (whatever that is) and proceeded to receive the flair that I was sent. FYI...flair looks like a little button and has a pic or a phrase of some sort on it. This particular one said something about the only thing better than a friend is a friend with chocolate (cute). So, here I am in Flairville, having no idea what to do next when the screen tells me that I'm out of flair credits. OH NO...OUT OF FLAIR CREDITS...WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO?!?!?!

This knowledge of my lack of flair suddenly took on a life of its own and I became intent on earning more flair credits. But why? I've walked 41 years on this earth and survived them all with no flair. Thanks a lot, Facebook...as if I don't have enough to worry about.

NOT THAT I WOULD KNOW

I have heard that some people read blogs.

I actually heard that many people read many blogs but I don't think it's true.

I have also heard that some of these people spend a lot of time each day (or even multiple times a day) going to each and every blog only to find out that that blog hasn't been updated thus wasting time.

I have heard that there is this place called Bloglines where you can register yourself and the blogs that you read so that you can just go to one place (http://www.bloglines.com/) to check out ALL your favorite blogs.

I heard that when you log on, only the blogs that have been updated, will be in bold and you can click on those to read the latest.

I'm not really into reading blogs. I have a lot more important things to do. But, just in case you are, I wanted you to know.

I'm just sayin'........

The Bachelorette

Well, what do I know? She chose the one guy that every single week when she's handed him a rose, I've thought, "What....Jesse?...no stinkin' way!!!".
